Mustard Oil Cake Powder (commonly known as Khol powder), which is an absolute powerhouse for organic gardening and plant nutrition.
Because it is rich in nitrogen, protein, and minerals, it acts as both a high-quality fertilizer and a natural pesticide. Here is how to use it effectively:
1. Direct Soil Application
If you are preparing a potting mix or boosting established plants:
Quantity: Use about 1–2 tablespoons for a medium-sized pot.
Method: Mix it well into the top layer of the soil, ensuring it doesn't touch the direct stem of the plant to avoid "root burn."
Frequency: Apply once every 30 days.
2. Liquid Fertilizer (The "Tea" Method)
This is often considered the most "mastered" way to use mustard cake because it makes the nutrients immediately available to the roots.
Mix 100g of mustard cake powder in 1 liter of water.
Cover it and let it ferment for 4–5 days. (Note: It will have a very strong odor).
Dilute it: This is the most important step. Dilute the fermented liquid with fresh water at a ratio of 1:10. The resulting liquid should look like very weak tea.
Apply this to the base of your plants once every 15 days during the growing season.
3. Benefits for Specific Plants
Flowering Plants: It encourages heavy blooming in roses and hibiscus.
Vegetables: Excellent for leafy greens and fruiting plants like tomatoes or chilies.
Fruit Trees: It provides the nitrogen boost needed for healthy foliage and stem strength.
